Theresa Dale, Rose’s Ghost
Temperamental. Brash. Self-assured (perhaps overly so?).

Those few words may be among the first anyone would use to describe Cali Crowell, the star and protagonist of CALI THE DESTROYER by Sol Luckman, but after having the privilege of narrating the story, I believe that, as it was for me, those descriptors would be quickly followed by many others as they are swept along the raucous adventure that is the famed teen’s life. Independent … courageous … broken … hopeful … Cali is all of these along with being famous for her catchy music and fantastic live performances.
She is also something else, and that something goes a long way to describe a lifelong sense of being different. Of not quite belonging in the world as she’s always been taught to know it. And her shock at the discovery of her true identity—her true family, role and ultimately, her purpose—is as genuine as our own as we accompany her on her journey. Which, in the end, renders this girl that at first may seem a mystery the one thing that connects us all: she is human, complete with the doubts, failings and fears that plague each of us.
So, can she fulfill a destiny that demands endless courage and unflagging determination? Can she ascend, transformed, on the fledgling wings of her quest and transcend what seeks to hold all of humanity down?
Considering her successes and her failings, both, I can’t imagine anyone better to lead us on a journey that never stalls, never bores, and always manages to surprise. As the Destroyer, this girl-turned-goddess is perhaps the most surprising element of all.
I sincerely hope my voice has done this epic tale the justice it deserves! Through an arguably dystopian, futuristic world very different, yet uncomfortably similar to our own, the reader is confronted with a culture that, despite its technological advances, has taken leaps backward where fundamental ethics are concerned. But we cannot despair; this tome is expertly spun to lead the reader through the rich backstory it is built upon without lecture or formal lesson. That said, in my mind, the prose, poetic at times and prophetic at others, could elevate any topic! Indeed, Luckman’s voice inspires a determination for something better, as, in the end, do his varied and lovable (even if it’s only “love to hate!”) characters.
With that, I’ll wish you a happy reading adventure and close how one from the deep world would: may the luminous child awaken within you!
Oh, and damn the Fatherland!

Building on this deep dive into lucid dreaming, parallel universes and Hindu mysticism, Sol’s new novel, CALI THE DESTROYER, is a page-turner of a sci-fi tale set in an Orwellian future seeded in the dystopian present that radically rewrites Gnosticism as well as the origins of the earth and humanity.
Sol’s popular book of humor and satire, THE ANGEL’S DICTIONARY: A SPIRITED GLOSSARY FOR THE LITTLE DEVIL IN YOU, received the 2017 National Indie Excellence Award for Humor and was selected as a Finalist in the Humor category of both the 2018 International Book Awards and the 2018 Best Book Awards.
